Jefferson United Methodist slates pie bake off, chili cook off

The Jefferson First United Methodist Church is holding some friendly competition next Sunday to raise money for the local Good Samaritan fund and to buy blankets for distribution through Church World Services.

Bakers in the congregation are invited to bring their best pumpkin and apple pies to the church at 9 am next Sunday for judging in a bake off. Chili chefs will also compete in a chili cook off. After judging, the contest entries will be served for lunch, with a special offering accepted for the Good Samaritan fund (funds distributed locally to families and persons with emergency needs) and for Blanket Sunday. All are welcome.

October 12 is also Blanket Sunday. Cost for the Church World Service blankets is $5 each. The blankets are distributed to homeless persons in the United States as well as nationally and internationally at times of natural disasters.

The Methodist Church’s regular Wednesday schedule includes time at the Webb House from 2 to 5:30 pm for students in grades 5-7. The confirmation class meets from 2 to 3 pm, and children in grades 3-7 have bells and musical practice from 2:30 to 3:30. The Crazy 4 Christ education program for children in TK through 4th grade meets from 3:45 to 5:30 pm.  A supper is served from 5:30 to 6:15; all are welcome. Chancel choir rehearses from 6:30 to 7:15 pm and the hand bell choir rehearses from 8 to 9 pm.
